Our Mission

Our focus is on curating (hand-selecting) cool, unique, truly one-of-a-kind, only new looking vintage and London street-style clothing. We sell them at affordable prices.

Thrift Town physical store, based in Durbanville, Cape Town, strives to provide value to customers, friendly, reliable and honest customer service that brings loyal customers, opportunities for employees, and promotes thrifty living – all for God’s glory. â€‹â€‹â€‹

Where our stock come from

We source these online, from flee markets, thrift shops across the country, as well as selected suppliers of imported clothing.

Our target market

We found that really or all age groups and genders love our clothing. But it is so that young people all now started climbing on the thrift wagon, leading their parents by example. Even young men come searching for clothing on their own, something that was always before unthought of! The clientele spending the most, although not with every visit, are the young adults or "real thifters", although some of them are students and they don't always have enough cash on hand.

Our Service

We save you the trouble and time, hand-selecting each and every item, making sure we only choose the very best for you.

We respect clothes. To be part of the secular economy and help give all clothing as many chances of wear as possible, we also offer a service of taking in clothing from clients, (only the ones we want or need), offer them only a gift voucher to the value of half of our retail price which they may use to purchase other clothing from our physical shop in Durbanville. We especially look for branded clothing.

We also swop or accept donations gladly.

Our Story

It all began in a charming little shop on Queen str, Durbanville. We bought over the shop, Thrift Town in 2022, after the previous owners have built up the foundation of the shop during 2021.

After opening the new store on the first day in January 2023, we were at first quiet and even discouraged as we weren't sure if this shop has been a viable purchase. But then, the very next day, the business unexpectedly boomed and we were thrown into the deep end.  Suddenly we had to run an extremely busy store while our price setting, other systems, etc. were not even in order yet!

It has been going better and better by the day, and we grew a lot over the years. Since the previous owner initially took the time to patiently teach me the ins and outs of the thrift business and provided the beautiful first business model, it enabled us to transform the store to even better over the years. We strived to continue upgrading the store and merchandise, and our aim was to attract the serious “thrifters”, who are genuinely looking for a quality clothing item at a good value, and not only a bargain for the sake of survival. We've made some changes in our stock. Due to high demand (and wanting to attract the clientele we were after), we decided to build on high-quality, and to focus especially on imported vintage brands.

We thought Durbanville needed something like this!

Since then we have built up the Thrift Town name nicely in Durbanville, establishing ourselves as the vintage store in the area.

The Problem

Consumers often complain that resale stores (hospice stores, second-hand stores and the like) are filled with an abundance of low-quality or over-priced options that are time-consuming to wade through.  â€‹â€‹â€‹

Our Solution

  • We only self-source, hand-pick and highly curate quality vintage/retro and London street-tyle clothing

  • We also focus on top brands as we discovered that these are of the highest wuality.

  • We also import and stock unique new clothing, accessories, shoes, jewelryin-between, sometimes still with the price tag on.

  • Other related merchandise include records and more.

The Pop-Up Thrift Store

Even though ""Thrift Town" was running one of the most popular thrift stores in Durbanville, after two years our contract expired, and we had to move our shop! (Our landlord needed the space for self-use). As we weren't able to find a suitable premises in time, we had no choice than to close our physical store at the end of March 2025 and moved our store home, a move that just made sense in light of this challenge.

For those preferring the touch and feel of the clothing and a more reliable view of the clothes than what a picture shows on the online store, our pop-up thrift store is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays 10-5 and Saturdays 10-4 at 26 Sterling Road, Vierlanden Heights, Durbanville (find the pin on Google maps).

The Online Shop

We also started to focus selling online at yaga.co.za/thrifttown.

You can still expect to find unique, as well as rare, vintage pieces in our online store, with the inventory constantly changing almost every day.

Every single item is placed on our online store before it's hitting our shelves. The advantage of shopping on our online store, is that you are able to also shop out-of-season clothing there that are not packed out on our shelves.

We value our loyal clients to such a degree and we are grateful for our customers, friends, and colleagues who have supported us throughout our journey.
